West Nile Still Strong in ND


State health officials want you to know that West Nile Virus infection is still going on around North Dakota West Nile Virus Surveillance Coordinator Michelle Feist says until that first frost comes to kill adult mosquitoes there still is potential risk of getting bit by a mosquito carrying the West Nile Virus Feist says with school in session that means Football tennis and Soccer games going on outdoors She says spectators and athletes need to take precautions against mosquitoes Michelle Feist ND Dept of Health I want to throw this analogy out there Just as someone were to put a helmet on to protect themselves from injury during a football gamespectators and these athletes should be putting on insect repellent to protect themselves from West Nile virus this summer because we do have a good month of the season ahead of us It s just the end of the August and the season can run well into September So farthere are 152 human cases of West Nile Virus in the state Burleigh County has the most cases with 27 One death has been related to the virus this year
