APS wants new Westside football stadium
A-P-S JUST SPENT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS SPRUCING UP ITS TWO FOOTBALL STADIUMS AND NOW THAT THE WORK S DONE -- THE DISTRICT IS LOOKING AT THE POSSIBILITY OF BUILDING A THIRD STADIUM JEFF MAHER IS LIVE AT MILNE STADIUM NEAR COAL AND I-25 WITH THE LATEST ON THE PROPOSAL -- JEFF THE DISTRICT HAS NOT BUILT A STADIUM SINCE 1963 ALL OF THE SPORTING EVENTS ARE DIVIDED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR SOME ARE HERE AT MILNE THE OTHERS AT WILSON STADIUM AT LOMAS AND JUAN TABO BUT SCHOOL OFFICIALS SAY WITH ALL THE GROWTH ON THE WESTSIDE - A THIRD STADIUM IS BADLY NEEDED this is a great place a great facility and it rivals any facility in the state MILNE AND WILSON STADIUMS JUST GOT A MAJOR MAKEOVER NEW PAINT AND SCOREBOARDS - PRESS BOXES AND LOCKER ROOMS it looked very new it looked fresh it just looks like it s well done BUT ALREADY DISTRICT OFFICIALS ARE TURNING THEIR ATTENTION TO BUILDING A NEW STADIUM ON THE WESTSIDE with westside growth also comes westside athletic program growth and those are the places we don t have a district athletic facility over on the westside we really need a stadium out there we need to be able to serve our westside and it s in conceptual planning and thanks to our bond election and our voters we have been able to do the kind of things you see here RIGHT NOW THE DISTRICT IS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT A NEW STADIUM WOULD NEED - FOR EXAMPLE - MORE SEATING - SOMETHING THAT IS STILL BEING PLANNED FOR MILNE OFFICIALS ARE ALSO LOOKING AT WHAT IT WOULD COST A GOOD DISTRICT STADIUM CAN COST UP TO TWELVE MILLION DOLLLARS THEY KNOW A DECISION NEEDS TO BE MADE SOON obviously all of our growth in the city is happening on the westside and the school district is working real hard to keep up with westside growth THE DISTRICT IS ALSO IN THE DESIGN PHASE OF A NEW SOCCER COMPLEX ON THE WESTSIDE LIVE IN SOUTHEAST ALBUQUERQUE JEFF MAHER EYEWITNESS NEWS FOUR
