State soccer tournament to be held on Albuquerque's west side
OVERALL IT LOOKS LIKE THE NEW A-P-S WESTSIDE SOCCER COMPLEX IS GOING TO BE GETTING A LOT OF USE TONIGHT WE VE LEARNED THE STATE HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER TOURNAMENT WILL BE HELD THERE LATER THIS YEAR MANY ARE HOPING THE TOURNAMENT WILL HELP STIMULATE STRUGGLING WESTSIDE BUSINESSES JEFF MAHER IS HERE WITH THE STORY JEFF FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS -- THE STATE SOCCER TOURNAMENT HAS BEEN HELD IN BERNALILLO BUT NOW THAT A- P-S WILL HAVE ITS OWN SOCCER COMPLEX THIS FALL -- THE NEW MEXICO ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION DECIDED TO GIVE IT A SHOT CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW A-P-S WESTSIDE SOCCER COMPLEX NEAR VOLCANO VISTA HIGH SCHOOL IS NEARLY FINISHED IT S SET TO OPEN IN AUGUST AND THE FACT THAT IT WILL BE THE SITE OF THIS YEAR S STATE SOCCER TOURNAMENT IS A BIG DEAL FOR A-P-S this is really the first state event held on the westside of albuquerque this is really the first state event held on the westside of albuquerque and I would hope to think that some of those westside businesses are going to see an increase in traffic over that time between students and parents and their communities that may be following them TWO WEEKS AGO WE TOLD YOU HOW THERE WERE SEVERAL BUSINESSES ON THE WESTSIDE THAT ARE HOPING THE SOCCER COMPLEX WILL BRING SOME BIG EVENTS --- AND INCREASE THEIR SALES THE STATE SOCCER TOURNAMENT IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST it is a very big deal it brings lots and lots of parents it brings coaches it brings students everybody comes to those so there s going to be a lot of economic impact A-P-S OFFICIALS SAY IN RECENT YEARS THE TOURNAMENT BROUGHT IN THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE STATE TO BERNALILLO THEY SAY THE FOUR LIGHTED FIELDS AND ARTIFICIAL TURF ARE JUST A COUPLE OF REASONS WHY THE SOCCER COMPLEX WAS PICKED FOR THE EVENT it gives everybody a very consistent surface to play on with the top of the line artificial turf we have and I think it will just be a great event for boys and girls across the state THE THREE-DAY TOURNAMENT IS
